Install methods
1. Install. Detects Linux / macOS and amd64 / arm64, verifies SHA-256 and installs to ~/.local/bin. No sudo, no changes to your shell config.
curl -fsSL https://github.com/mzdluo123/webmux/releases/latest/download/install.sh | shThe mirror is a third-party service and can see your IP. The binary and SHA256SUMS must come from the same source and pass verification.
2. Run. Then open http://127.0.0.1:7681 in a browser and click “New session”.
webmux --listen 127.0.0.1:76813. Next: keep it running in the background, reach it from your phone, start agents from your usual terminal.
1. Prepare WSL 2. Windows 10 22H2+ or Windows 11, WSL 2 from the Microsoft Store (run wsl --update in PowerShell), and at least one distribution. No administrator rights needed.
2. Download and run webmux-setup-windows-amd64.exe . It installs for the current user only. The installer is unsigned; if SmartScreen blocks it, choose “More info → Run anyway”.
3. In the tray menu, choose “Install webmux in WSL”. The tray fetches the Linux binary matching your distribution, verifies its SHA-256, installs it, and starts WebMux from the menu.
Debian / Ubuntu. On arm64, pick the matching package from the download table.
curl -LO https://github.com/mzdluo123/webmux/releases/download/v0.10.2/webmux_0.10.2-1_amd64.deb sudo apt install ./webmux_0.10.2-1_amd64.debFedora / RHEL / openSUSE. On arm64, pick the matching package from the download table.
curl -LO https://github.com/mzdluo123/webmux/releases/download/v0.10.2/webmux-0.10.2-1.x86_64.rpm sudo dnf install ./webmux-0.10.2-1.x86_64.rpmStart at login. Packages never enable the service for any user. The first start writes ~/.config/webmux/config.toml with a random token.
systemctl --user enable --now webmux
To compile it yourself, install Go 1.26+, Node.js, pnpm and GNU Make, then run:
git clone https://github.com/mzdluo123/webmux.git
cd webmux
make build # bin/webmux
make install # ~/.local/bin/webmux All downloads

The SHA-256 column shows the first 8 characters; expand a value to see all of it. Every checksum is in SHA256SUMS. Verify the downloads by hand, in the same directory:
sha256sum --check --ignore-missing SHA256SUMS # macOS: shasum -a 256 -c --ignore-missing SHA256SUMS Mirrors for mainland China
The install script does not depend on raw.githubusercontent.com. Where GitHub is slow or blocked, fetch the same release asset through the ghfast.top proxy:
curl -fsSL https://ghfast.top/https://github.com/mzdluo123/webmux/releases/latest/download/install.sh | sh - The script tries GitHub first, then each mirror prefix in WEBMUX_MIRRORS (default https://ghfast.top https://gh-proxy.com, space-separated). Every source has connect, low-speed and total time limits.
- The binary and SHA256SUMS must come from the same source and pass verification; on failure the existing binary is kept.
- Mirrors are third-party services and can see the requester's IP address. Same-source verification catches truncation and corruption, not a malicious mirror that replaces both files; for high assurance or offline installs, pin the digest with WEBMUX_SHA256.
To download from GitHub only, set WEBMUX_MIRRORS to an empty value:
curl -fsSL https://github.com/mzdluo123/webmux/releases/latest/download/install.sh \
| WEBMUX_MIRRORS="" sh WebMux exposes a shell to the network as your user, listening on 0.0.0.0:7681 by default. For local use, listen on 127.0.0.1; for remote access, bind to a trusted VPN such as Tailscale or WireGuard. Do not expose it to the internet unless you deliberately use a tunnel and accept that the token is the only barrier. It is not a process sandbox, and restarting the service ends every terminal session. Read the security model
